There are usually two types of adventurers in the outdoors, those of us wearing Arc'teryx, and those who wish they were wearing Arc'teryx. Life Outside Studio was stoked to shoot Arc'teryx' newest line of trail running apparel while on the Yukon Trail Running Expedition. Freedom and movement are two things found in abundance in the territory of Yukon. Being dry and comfortable gave us the ability to explore further, faster.

Life Outside Studio worked with Yukon Tourism to explore some of Canada's best kept secrets. Highlighting exciting activities and adventures, the team documented what draws individuals to the Yukon, the untouched landscape. From flying over Canada's largest non-polar ice field and highest mountain peaks to paddling down the historic and wild Yukon River, Life Outside Studio showcased some of the most exciting parts that the territory has to offer.

Life Outside Studio covered event photos, participant photos, and promotional video for 3Beavers Racing "Black Fly" ultra-trail race. With 150 overall trail runners, running on three separate courses, a 3 hour, 6 hour, and 12 hour! The runners were banged up and bruised, but they all managed to look like heros in their photos.

The Trans Namibia Expedition was a 2000km running traverse of Namibia from south to north. Expedition runners, Ray Zahab and Stefano Gregoretti, covered nearly 60km a day, everyday for over 4 weeks straight, in the peak of the southern hemispherical summer!

Life Outside Studio had the opportunity to document this impressive feat, and create 8 short videos that essentially summarized and recapped the highlights and the lowlights of the runners experiences as they were unfolding. All of the content you see here was captured, edited, and uploaded from the field via satellite, completely off the grid.

The videos below have been viewed collectively almost 100,000 times on the expedition runners' personal accounts and fan pages. Video from this expedition was recorded for Discovery Canada, Canadian Geographic Education, and a number of outdoor industry leading brands.

Life Outside Studio photographs 5 race series with 3Beavers Racing in Gatineau QC, each year. Midnight Moose is among their most challenging, running through the night with nothing but a headlight to guide the ultra runners. Ryan and Hailey work as a team to tackle the challenges of shooting for 24 hours straight, creating compositions in the dark, as well as operating light sources and flash.

Life Outside Studio Photographers Hailey and Ryan hike the Laugavegur trail in the Icelandic highlands, just south of the Arctic Circle. The Laugavegur trail is 55km long, Hailey and Ryan extend the trail by adding an optional extension to the trail, Fimmvörðuháls. Fimmvörðuháls is a 25km trail that leads from Þórsmörk valley, through Eyjafjallajökull glacier and Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Hailey and Ryan completed the trail unsupported over 5 days.

The duo packed as light as possible, their backpacks weighing 11kg. each. Packing this way gave them the freedom to add side objectives to their hike, and have total freedom to create beautiful imagery along the way. Like many projects, stock photography, photo licensing, and photo prints sales funded the expedition.

The Canadian Rockies is where all of this began... It's where Ryan and Hailey met one another and shared their passion for the outdoors. The rocky mountains along the highway 1, along the boarder of BC and Alberta, is practically a revolving door for them. Banff, Kananaskis, Jasper, Kootenay, and Yoho parks, are constantly consuming their thoughts and imagination. It's hard to imagine ever tiring of these places, they surely never will.
